What is it?
Pilates is a form of exercise which concentrates on strengthening the body with an emphasis on core control, helping to improve general fitness and overall well-being. Pilates concentrates on posture, balance and flexibility and can be a great way to stay in shape without intense loads or impact on joints.
The key elements of pilates are the abc’s alignment, breathing and core stability however all exercises aim to incorporate the following principles: Relaxation, Concentration, Co-ordination, Centring, Alignment, Breathing, Stamina and Flowing Movements.
Pilates also focuses on the mind-body connection, very important in a busy society today. While doing the various exercises your mind needs to be constantly aware of your breathing and the way your body moves.
